EASY LIVIN’ IN SALO 2012 INFO

At this page you find all info on the festival in English for our international guests. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Easy Livin' In Salo is a unique festival hosted by the Finnish Uriah Heep fan club and is dedicated to the music of Uriah Heep. This year it is held from 16th to 18th August in Salo, Finland -  a small town situated only ca. 100 kilometres from the capital Helsinki. The event is focused on Ken Hensley, the original keyboard player/guitarist of the band and writer of such classics as Lady In Black and Easy Livin'. Also we have the longest serving drummer of the band Lee Kerslake and the original bass player Paul Newton. They are performing together as Uriah Heep Legends joined by Icelandic vocalist Eirikur Hauksson (remembered from The Eurovision Song Contest Final in Finland 2007) and English guitarist Phil Baker.

The world famous German Uriah Heep tribute band Circle Of Hands is also coming to Salo and there are several Finnish cover bands. During the three days there are also several attractions besides the concerts. Additional program includes also a unique interactive workshop "Ken Hensley songwriting class" and more. A very important factor is also always meeting other Heep fans from around the world and hanging out with them. As a special guest we have invited Ken Hensley’s younger brother Trevor who will be performing together with Ken.

Two day event pass costs only 45 EUR when bought in advance and it includes access to all three music concerts (Sokos Hotel Rikala concerts on Friday & Saturday and Main Concert at Salon Urheilutalo on Saturday). Ken Hensley Songwriting class tickets are sold separately and they cost 25 EUR. Thursday program is all with free admission. Please note that Cumulus hotel package is sold only with the event pass so you don’t need to buy it separately if you book a room at Cumulus.

KEN HENSLEY SONGWRITING CLASS

Easy Livin’ In Salo is offering a unique opportunity for fans to have an insight to Ken Hensley’s songwriting and working methods and have advice on their own music career in this interactive workshop on Friday 17th of August starting at 10 a.m..

Under the title ¨There is a song in every one of us¨, legendary songwriter, producer and touring/recording artist Ken Hensley will use his extraordinary songwriting gift to encourage writers and non-writers to explore, discover, develop and enjoy the ability to create musical poetry that can not only change their own lives but make a positive difference in the lives of others and the world in which we all live.

Uniquely qualified, Ken has been writing poetry since he was a young boy and began turning his poems into songs at the age of 18. Since then, with more than 40 million records sold, over 300 songs published in a career spanning more than 45 years, he has the background and experience to inform, educate and inspire just about anyone into the field of music that continues to enrich so many lives all over the world.

Importantly, Ken has never had any kind of musical training and never learned to read or write music in the formal way so his class is open to anyone with just a little curiosity. A touch of ambition helps too!

And you don´t even need to play an instrument! Remember, a lot of people have made a lot of money from simply being great lyricists!

Talking points:

Introduction to creative thinking, basic rhyme, song structures etc…

Copyright, publishing overviews, first active steps

"Let's make a song" (class begins the process of writing a song together)

Finding the rhythm and the melody within the lyric.

     "Let's record it"

ATTENTION! Number of tiickets sold is very limited to preserve the intimate nature of the session so get your tickets now! Only a few tickets left!!!

Check out the video from 2009 session: ”Songwriting

 with Ken Hensley

Please keep in mind when booking the hotel room that the session starts already 10 a.m. on Friday morning so the attendants should arrive already on Thursday. Estimated duration of the songwriting class is 4 hours. Tickets are NOT included in the two-day event pass, they are sold separately and cost 25 EUR each. All proceeds go to Ken Hensley’s Esperanza Street charity organisation. Also note that you don’t have to be a musician and sing or play any instrument. However if you do play guitar, you are welcome to bring your own instrument with you to be able to participate in writing of a new song. Please remember to take also pen and paper with you.
